Focus

Focus. Whenever I talk about this skill I am referring to the ability to pay attention to physical sensations in specific body parts. Not what are you feeling right now emotionally? Not concentration or perseverance. Physical sensations in specific body parts.

I make this distinction about focus because it is a classic example of a word that has different meanings and associations for different people. Many people associate focus with serious mental effort, like think hard and you might come up with the right answer. The problem is that this is exactly the kind of thinking that gets in the way of noticing what is happening with the body.

Focus is about simply noticing what is happening in each moment with your body, your equipment and the snow, minus all expectations and assumptions.
