In the last few seasons, Weems Westfeldt's research has been integrated with the work of his friend and colleague Ahmed Yehia and one of Ahmed's friends and great mentors, Dr. Peter Koestenbaum. Their work has mostly focused on business philosophy and leadership. However, Ahmed and Weems found that performance in sports and performance in leadership follow essentially the same principles. They believe that both fields are described and framed elegantly and effectively by the Sports DiamondTM and the Leadership Diamond®. (The Leadership Diamond® is a model that helps one enhance leadership skills by improving and balancing the four basic orientations of Courage, Vision, Ethics, and Reality.)
The Sports DiamondTM is an organizing principle proposing that an athlete needs to develop dynamic balance among four global sports resources: Power, Purpose, Touch, and Will. Any athlete who can hold the balance, over time, among these resources can learn to collaborate better with a coach, to self-coach, to enhance performance in all sports, and to create brilliant days, every day-even when not at peak performance. Any athlete who emphasizes one resource to a fault, at the expense of others, will ultimately become stuck on an endless learning plateau leading to boredom, poor performance, frustration, and abandonment of the activity.
The Sports DiamondTM works, both short- and long-term, because:
